A Moment On First Avenue

the dance of something invisible

the wind in the flowing screens

hanging from the balconies

across the street

*

like the breath

of the mysterious god

from down the lake

*

the islands floating

out far in the glimmering waters

they were called, “the Manitous”

we all knew what that meant

*

the wild god who whispers

in the wind

which howls like wolves

in the eye of the moon

at Temple’s Gate.
